Ross Sutherland wurde 1979 in Edingburgh geboren und arbeitet als Autor und Performer, Filmemacher und Dozent in Creative Writing. 2008 wurde er in der Times list of Top Ten Literary Stars of 2008 genannt. Er veröffentlichte vier Gedichtbände, alle beim Londoner Independent Verlag Penned in the Margins: Things To Do Before You Leave Town (2009), Twelve Nudes (2010), Hyakuretsu Kyaku (2011) und Emergency Window (2012). Weitere Veröffentlichungen in den Publikationen Popshot, Pen Pusher, Rising, Reactions, Tears in the Fence, The Grocer, Fleeting und im NME. Seine Werke wurden außerdem präsentiert im London Science Museum, im Institute for The Future of the Book, außerdem von ADIDAS und vom BBC Radio.
Ross Sutherland kombiniert live seine literarischen Texte mit Stand-Up-Elementen und Visuellem. Dafür arbeitet er mit Illustratoren, Animationszeichnern und Filmemachern zusammen. U.a. entstand dabei eine der komplexesten Power Point-Präsentation in unseren Breiten.
Er schrieb und produzierte diverse Theatershows. 2005 war er an der Poetry Boyband des Kollektivs Aisle16 beteiligt, die in über 200 Locations im UK gespielt wurde und den Time Out’s Critice’s Choice of the Year-Preis gewann. Es folgten u.a. The Three Stigmata of Pacman (2010) und Comedian Dies In The Middle of Joke (2012). 2010 entstand außerdem das Livespiel Hinterland, das er zusammen mit der Social Gaming Company Hide and Seek entwickelte; die Spieler bewegten sich dabei durch Edingburgh und setzten ein Gedicht zusammen, indem sie Leute ansprachen und Teile aus den Unterhalten auf einen Anrufbeantworter sprachen.
Ross Sutherland veranstaltet die monatliche Lesebühne Homework zusammen mit den anderen Mitgliedern des Dichterkollektivs Aisle16 im Workingmen’s Club in Bethnal Green. Er erhielt u.a. den Time Out Award.

– How did you get into performance poetry?
– I’ve written poetry since I was five. My gran and I used to write together. She would use rhymes to help me remember shopping lists, stuff like that. When I moved to England, we kept in touch through poetry. That was the sole medium of our relationship.
